Problems with under cupboard strip lighting

Replacing one of my undercupboard strip lights and having sent away for replacement light,not only does the replacement light not fit but even the original light is now about half an inch shorter.Yet it fitted when I took it out originally.Is there a reason for this?Has the fitting or light contracted?Please explain why it is so different.Thank you.
