Socket circuit fault

Posted by Alison Pascoe, on
The socket circuit in my daughter's house tripped out when they were replacing a socket front plate. They put it back to its original state and tried removing all the plugs but are unable to reset the main trip.

It's more than likely a fault on the socket that was replaced. Isolate the supply to that socket and check for incorrect polarity, i.e. make sure the cables are in the correct terminals. The brown in the L. The blue in the N. The green in the E. Misconfiguration of these conductors could cause tripping issues.

Hello Alison, There is a permanent fault on the circuit. More likely in the socket/s which they tried to replace. When is an RCD on the circuit then that is very sensitive for any weakness.
