Replacement VIR cabling

Posted by Diane King, on
I've been advised to have the VIR electrical cabling replaced in my 1950's semi-detached 2-bedroomed house. How vital is this and how expensive/disruptive is this? Thank you.

Hi Diane, It is quite vital to make sure your house insurance will be valid to replace that type of wiring. Also that type of cable was not made to withstand the types of stress today's electronics can put on circuits so therefore you should look at replacing it all really. For a full rewire you could be talking in the region between 2/3k depending on your requirements and needs. If it's just circuits and not a full rewire it's hard to say without looking. Where is your property? Nigel.
