R7S Linear Bulb replacement

Posted by Pete Clark, on
When we bought our house, we 'inherited' 4 ceiling lights all equipped with 118mm R7S linear bulbs. One by one they have all failed, and for the life of me I can't replace them successfully. I'm told that one end of the fitting should be spring-loaded, but NEITHER end is. I can't generate enough leverage on the end of the fitting to 'persuade' the bulb in, the nuts at either end of the fitting are rock-solid, and can't be moved, and I've broken 3 bulbs on these wretched things trying to 'shed light' on the subject. Is there a knack I'm missing, or (even better), is there an adaptor that plugs into the R7S terminals to turn it into something sensible like a bayonet connector or E37 ? Please help - I'm desperate !! I really don't want to replace 4 light fittings ....

Hi my name is Stuart wright my company is S.J.W Electrics I know you don't want to change your fittings but the ones you have are a complete pain and probably will cost you more money in the long run would be simpler to just change fittings sorry for bad news Many thank Stuart
