Light circuits

Posted by Bernie Gackowski, on
Have an old fuseboard that feeds 3 off lighting circuits in offices via a 30A fuse, we are thinking of changing the CU, fitted with MCBs, will we have to split all these circuits and use 3x6A MCBs. Regards Bernie

Hi Bernie, if you currently have 3 lighting circuits (which are wired in 2.5mm or less) all connected into 1 fuse rated at 30a you need to sort it out ASAP. You are correct the circuits will need splitting, and depending on the cable size the MCB’s may be 6a. At the moment you have a potential fire risk as the fuse has a higher rating than the cable
