New consumer unit

Posted by Martin , on
Hi - had an EICR report done for a rental property and upshot is they have said my fuse box isn't up to current regs and needs to be replaced at a cost of about £1200 incl VAT. Seems excessive and not sure whether these regs are applied retrospectively or whether they are taking me for a ride?

Hi, It conformed to BS7671 in the past and was safe at the time. Being not up to date to the current regulations now doesn't mean that is no longer safe. If old fuseboard hasn't suffered any damege, has not become unusable through overheating or is not in dangerous condition with exposed live parts then there is no need for exchange. Regards Tom
