Changing Danfoss RM230 to a RET2000M - wiring help please

I have removed a Danfoss RM230 - it has 3 wires 1 Live, 1 Neutral and 1 other. To fit the RET2000M I have put the Live into the L port, Neutral in N port but the remaining ports I have left are 1,2,3 (COM, ON, OFF respectively) . I have put the "other " wire into each of these in turn and for each time the boiler does not fire up when the thermostat calls for heat.. Should there be a link wire ? Any advice would help please.
