Black spots on floorboards

Hi,
There's what appears to be a rotten end to a floorboard in one room in my house and on the board next to it there is a black spot in the wood around 2 inches big with lots of small spots around it. Is it simply a case of replacing the broken board or is there the possibility of either a damp/pest problem? Any help would be appreciated.
