Best laminate flooring on the market? Help please!

Posted by Renee Ferns, on
What is the best laminate on the market? Berry 'Alloc', Krono, Elka, Balterio or? Each Tradesman seems to have a different view thus contradicting the other! I want something hard wearing because I'd have children, a disabled member, a dog and a piano! So don't want to have to do it up again and again, I am looking for longevity. So an A4 or A5, with V Grooves would be good but are they really good? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi renee in my opinion with the circumstances you described I think you should go for laminate instead of wood because although wood looks better it is not as hard wearing as laminate because it is easier to scratch and dent but laminate because it is made up of composite wood and fibres and compressed together with glue under high temperatures and then top with what is effectively a photograph it is a lot harder wearing and is more tolerant to changes in temperature and humidity if it is installed correctly, but beware of the cheap one which can chip and split easily , if you want a good one that will last for many years try quickstep ypu wont go far wrong with that. hope this helps in your decision . many thanks alan

In the circumstances that you describe, Renee, I would not use laminate at all. You would be better off with engineered wood flooring. it is dearer than laminate, but is worth paying the extra if you want longevity. regards, pete.

Dear Renee I would suggest to post job description on main website Once you've posted a job with us and had a local tradesman quote, you should have been sent an emailed link to his profile. From here, you can read previous customer recommendations and ratings. I hope this will help Best regards Rafal

Hello, I agree with Pete, Iwould definately recommend you to use either an engineered or solid wood but not narrow planks and short lengths but wide plank 185mm and longer lengths 1800mm - 2400mm, oiled or laquered. Best wishes, Ian

Hi Renee Lets be practical.. Laminate is far more hard wearing. Especially with young ones and animals. Yes there are so many products to choose from I work for a lot of shops and builders and i have advised Quickstep. But as you have stated fitters have there own preference. Be careful with V grooves which does attract dust in the grooves. Quickstep has a 25 year scratch guard resistance. If you have a narrow room , the obvious is to choose narrow planks. Also consider the underlay. It will depend on the subfloor. Floorboards should be fibre board Concrete should be quickstep barrier plus regards Jeff Guild Flooring ( F.I.T.A)
