Uneven concrete in back yard

Posted by Phaedra Wilkinson, on
I want to lay stone tiles in my back yard but the concrete is cracked an uneven, how can this be addressed?

Mark is right - the concrete surface is probably totally unsuitable for tiling onto - it will be ultimately cheaper to remove the old concrete and lay a new base to tile onto. If the cracking is purely from the initial "settling" then a latex leveller could be spread over the top. Incidentally - if laying a new concrete base of 100mm - then allow at least 6 weeks before tiling to allow full drying, curing and settlement of the new concrete.

Hi Phaedra Is hard to say without seeing the job but if the concrete is cracked and uneven then it will be unsuitable to lay tiles on . You would need to remove the concrete and put a new concrete slab down leaving enough room from finished height to bed your tiles . Depending on ground conditions 4-6 inches should be enough for the new slab. Hope this helps Mark Surrey Hills Landscaping
