New flooring with chip board

Posted by Louise Fitzgerald, on
Thinking of getting Karndean flooring in an apartment we are in the process of purchasing. The homebuyers report stated the floor was creaky. Would we just need to correct the creaks where they are or replace the whole chip board?

Chip board floors creak when, either the nails are not down enough and allow the boards to move and rub against the nail, or where the boards join they again are not fixed properly and will rub. screwing boards down is best but check for pipes and cables FIRST

Before laying karndean the floor would need over layiing with plywood, even if new chipboard is fitted 1st. Getting rid of the squeaks is a real pain it might just need screwing down tight but can often be a case of rip out and starting again
