Creaky Flooring

Posted by Steve Love, on
I have creaky chipboard floating flooring I'm looking to get fixed. Have tried the usual fixes (screws, wedges, etc) with little effect. On lifting one, I can see there is a layer of insulation on the concrete, then the wooden battens on top of the insulation. Would this be allowing the wood to move and causing the creaks? Thanks

Hi Steven what sort of insulation is under the battens? Is it a rigid type or a glass roll type? The rigid type would be better as you will get less compression when the floorboards are stood on. You need to ensure the boards are glued together on the tongues so they form one big area rather than smaller separate boards. You can buy chipboard flooring with the insulation already attached this is specifically designed for this type of floating floor but they don't come cheap! Ed.
