Decking over a ditch

Posted by Steven Wilkinson, on
I have a ditch in my rear garden between the edge of a patio and a boundary fence. The ditch is only under a few inches of water occasionally during the winter - otherwise damp/dry. The ditch measures about sixty feet wide, three feet deep and seven - eight feet wide. It has steep sides. I'd like to deck half (possibly all) of the length from the boundary fence to the patio, but I'm unsure whether the damp in the ditch will compromise whatever is set into it to provide support for the decking - or maybe there is some other method? I work abroad, so, in the first instance any response will be better via email to me. Thereafter my wife can get involved if we decide to go ahead.

Hi steven I have done such jobs in the past and used steel work to cover the large span with less supports into the ground which is unstable
