Repainting floorboards

Posted by Meena Khatwa, on
We currently have lino on top of painted floorboards. I'm keen to remove lino and repaint the floor boards, they seem to be in good condition. My questions is: can I repaint the floor boards without sanding?

Hi Meena, You can, but you certainly would not get a good finish without sanding them first. Was the lino fixed down to the boards? It is usually glued in place and this can be difficult to get off (as well as potentially being a nasty substance - depends how old the adhesive is). But, it is all down to how good you want the finish to be - the boards will at least be dirty which you might get off with a specialist cleaner, but I would expect that you will need to sand them to really be sure that you get any ground-in dirt out.

What would you like to do now?
