Solid oak wooden flooring

Posted by Kaye Louis, on
My solid oak flooring has large gaps in winter and expands in summer. The flooring is continuous throughout the downstairs and it is in good condition so I do not want to replace it. Any suggestions?

This is how solid wood can behave as you have the heating on in winter the wood dries out and shrinks leaving gaps. In the summer the relative humidity in the house will rise and the wood will expand. Depending on how the floor has been laid depends on how or what you can do to remedy this. However wood does expand and contract all the time
