New floor over existing underfloor heating

Posted by Daniel K, on
Our flat has electric underfloor heating that was installed by the previous owners. Currently it has what appears to be engineered wood floors. Some has sustained water damage. We would like to replace the whole floor with good quality engineered or wood floors. We have two questions. One is whether any engineered or wood flooring is o.k. to put over the underfloor heating. Is there a maximum thickness where if the floor can start to block the heat from getting through? The other is that we are tearing out a closet and there was no underfloor heating there. We are going to replace it with floor. Will it be possible to 'extend' the underfloor heating to this 'new' patch of floor? Thank you for your help!
