Hi jas you could use wood flooring and fit it around the trapdoor and finish it with a finishing profiles to tidy it up and then on the actual trap top you could fix wood flooring on to that so it can be lifted out.

We have a small hallway (2x3ft) and ideally we wanted to cover it with laminate whilst the trap door is still usable but when we asked the builder who put it in, they said we could only really use carpet tiles. But that wouldn't work at all because at the very least we would want to put the same carpet on top as we have elsewhere.
Any advice?
