Gaps and squeaky Old Victorian floorboards-how to fix?

Posted by Simone Coley, on
We're about to buy an old Victorian house and want to get an idea of what to do with the floorboards. They look like they are partly original and I think some have been replaced - and replaced badly. There's gaps in between floorboards and holes in some corners of the room and they look to have replaced floorboards and left gaps for cables from plug sockets to go in. The floor in general is really squeaky as well. This is the same in a few rooms, not just in one. Would we need to rip up the entire of the old floorboards and replace with new ones? Or can we take up the offending floorboards and simply replace a few boards? Some rooms we may end up carpeting but the other we want to keep as wooden-we just want the floorboards to fit and not squeak!

Hi.this is not a simple answer . you can either advertise the job on the site and get advice. but please make sure that the trader is fully qualified by way of creditation. I am F.I.T.A certified. My reasons are that period properties need qualified people which will gaurentee a long term solution and not just a quick fix Jeff Guild Flooring
