Extra insulation for floors

Posted by Outi Ollikkala, on
I have a ground floor flat built in 1900. I have carpets now, which I like to be removed and replaced with laminate. The central heating works fine and the flat warms up very quickly, however, even at the height of summer floors radiate very cold air upwards. I believe the foundation is a mixture of concrete and timber. How could I best provide extra insulation to stop this coldness coming through? I don't have damp.

hi the underlay is the key here, if your subfloor is concrete you will need a moisture resistant underlay , you can get a 5mm gold that will certainly help with insulation . regards simon

Hi, If you go for laminate flooring go for the thickest- 12 mm and for underlay I will recommend 6mm fibreboard (green planks). You will probably have to trim some doors as the level of the rooms will rise . All the best. Tudor
