Drying traditions screeds

Posted by Kevin Brabbins, on
We have a new conservatory with 120mm screed on top of underfloor electric heating. We need to lay a latex self-levelling screed on top of the traditional screed. How long must we wait and could we use a de-humidifier to speed up the process?

As long as you use a self levelling compound that says it can go on a damp floor you're ok to go ahead. Although you will need to wait for the slab to dry out properly before putting any vinyl type flooring or laminate flooring over it. This is usually 1 day per mm of thickness of the slab. In your case you could speed it up by GENTLY assisting it with the under floor heating. To be on the safe side I would make sure you have the slab damp tested before you install anything on it. Hope this helps
