Insulating your floor

Posted by David Burleigh, on
I don't want to lift my floorboards up to insulate can I insulate on top of the floor boards with foil roll or insulating sheets then board over with ply board then I am thinking of laying laminate flooring or a carpet I do have air bricks all round the property which are free flowing but I was thinking of installing air brick cowls as well to stop the icy blast of air but still let adequate ventilation through would this work or would it cause me damp/ problems

Hi, Insulation on top of floor boards is very common. It is normal practice for carpets. I would not recommend using foil based insulation as that would create a damp issue but I would recommend using boarded insulation. Depending on the flooring cover choice you would be better asking local carpet fitters or vinyl fitters for there preferences. If you choose laminate flooring then use dial push boarding. Hope the helps Scott
