How much gap do I leave from floor when fitting skirting boards?

Hi all, im about to fit new skirting boards before we have the new carpet laid, do I need to leave gap between the floor and bottom of skirting board for.the gripper etc, or do I lay skirting board flush to the floor?

Hello, the new skirting board gets fixed to the wall and hard down on the sub-floor. The carpet grippers get nailed adjacent to the skirting.
