Laminate flooring with furniture in the room

Posted by Shalisha Smith, on
Hey there, I was thinking of getting laminate flooring however I have 2 issues. 1. The floor beneath the carpet is concrete 2. I live in a studio flat so I do not have another room to move furniture to. I can take out all electricals and knick knacks however a 2 door wardrobe and TV unit are too big to be moved out. Would a carpenter still be able to lay the floor and move these 2 items from one side of the room to the other? Any advice would be great thanks!

Hello Shalisha, If your sub-floor is made of concrete, then it is necessary that you use a moisture resistant underlay (Vapour barrier). A "Damp proof underlay" will be the best option on this occasion, as it will provide a far greater protection against moisture coming up from your concrete sub-floor on to your laminate flooring. Make sure to use a thick grade underlay to provide the best under foot feeling. Most flooring contractors will be more than happy to work around the fixtures in the room, although of course this will more than likely mean an extra cost for the time and labour required to move any fixtures. Make sure to ask your contractor to include all aspects of cost within the quotation and shop about for the best materials possible. I hope you have found this helpful and best of luck with your project. - Christopher CLN Maintenance and Development
