Hi Melissa I would advise that if you are going to remove the old flooring and install new. this is a great oppertunity to check the condition of the joists. (looking for rotting, damage, excessive bending) Then when installing I would say use 22mm instead of 18mm the make sure it is glued using expanding lumberjack glue and screwed not nailed to prevent squeaking. hope this helps josh
