Replacing a broken fence

Posted by Vicky , on
Me and my neighbor are wanting to replace our broken fence that partitions our 2 gardens. The length of the garden is about 100ft. The current fence posts are stable bar 2 which are within shrubbery and so are most likely rotten. However, a few things have cropped up that may mean this is more tricky than initially anticipated. After measuring the fence posts are spaced about 10ft apart aposed to 8ft. There is not an end post that buts up to the wall of our house either as it looks like brackets were originally drilled into the brick work instead to hold the horizontal timbers that the slats then nailed into. The space between the wall and brackets to the first fence post is around 11ft. I beleive this is because this area spans over the concrete paving/patio area of both houses and so the post couldn’t be fitted? This subsequently is the area with the most damage. How can we overcome this if we were to do as a diy project? Should we add extra posts between the originals? So 5ft spacing? And how would we solve the issue of the concrete area? This concreted area is also on slightly different levels with my neighbors being lower? It becomes less of a problem as you go further up.
