Problem with email address

Hi, I would like to change my email address, the reason why, it was my old address mostly used for personal purpose. I would like to separate my personal and business emails, so I opened an another email very similar to the first one. I tried to change it but for some reasons I can not do this because this email is already in use. I do not know why, I had never have any account with that email, may I tried to register using it earlier, can be like that because I was looking at ratedpeople before, may I started registration, just for try, but I never complete it as I was not ready yet. How I can cancel that email - in use - and then put it as my main and only one email?
