Heating and hot water problem

Posted by Claire Ellis, on
I have a Potterton 40eL-80eL gas boiler with a Sunvic Select 207XL programmer. The water heats up fine during the times we have set it to. There seems to be no problem with the hot water. The heating however will only come on when switched on manually during the times set. The heating will not work outside the timer times when either the 'on' switch or the ADV+1 overrides the timer times, even though sometimes the boiler does fire but then turns off. The boiler also responds to the thermostat but again does not work the heating outside the timer times. We also cannot rely on the heating coming on during the timer times. Could it be the battery in the programmer? or a faulty programmer?

I agree with Tony @ SML Gas. Definitely a faulty programmer. It is basically a standard twin channel programmer with excessive buttons and functions. You definitely need a good heating engineer to confirm fault and replace as it cannot be repaired.

Hi Claire , yes it sounds like the programmer is faulty. If the hot water works and heating will come on during the set times (every now and again) then as a engineer I would rule out the Lilkleyhood of it being any other component. This answer is based on what you have said and with out me physically checking it. I would advise you to get a heating engineer out to check and replace if required. Thanks tony @ smlgasltd .
