Sounds like its a lock out problem with it being the red light. This is the boiler just going into a general breakdown mode, it could be a number of things low burner pressure , over heating, pump proving diaphragm, aps dropping out. The list goes on but the red light means lock out and I would suggest a gas save engineer takes a look. He would probably charge you a diagnosis fee as the a good number of things for him to check, cheers tony @ sml gas ltd.
