Boilers manufacturers say boilers last upto ten years but saying that if it is a good make ie Vaillant then it could last longer I have Vaillants on my service round that are over 15 years old. The only problem with old boilers is the efficiency will not be as good as with a new condensing boiler so I would bite the bullet and change the boiler make sure you use a heating engineer with a power flush machine and get a powerflush and a magnaclean magnetic filter fitted to the return of the boiler hope this helps cheers Ray

Hi Karen The boiler is clearly working if the radiators are heating up. Maybe a problem with the three port valve or heating controls. I would also post an ad on ratedpeople.com and give as much details on the boiler make and model etc. I would put the a budget of £250 to get interest in the job as £100 wouldn't be enough. If it is the valve that is the issue expect to pay £100 parts and £150 labour as the system will need to be drained down. If it is the motor that has gone on the valve expect to pay £65 parts and £90 labour. Sam (eps)

if you have a hot water cylinder, possibly the three way valve has failed. to be honest there are a number of reasons. post the job, you will get free estimates, and someone may know straight away by the type and model. it is not necessarily a dead boiler!
