Problem with boiler

Posted by Dawn Goddard, on
I have a combi boiler and since the engineer came round to give it a service it will only provide hot water when the central heating is switched on. What could he have done to this? Thank you

It sounds like your diverter valve is not switching over to hot water from heating a way to tell if it is the diverter valve is let the heating cool put the boiler on hot water only and open a tap while the tap is running go to the boiler and feel the heating flow pipe (it will be one of the big pipes probably on the left) if it's getting hot then you either need a diverter valve, powerflush or an actuator head. All of these problems could not be caused by a service hope this helps cheers Ray

Hi Dawn It is unlikely that he would have done anything as it sounds if there is a problem with your diverter valve. The service wouldn't have played any part in this part not operating anymore. I would put it down to a case of bad coincidence. It was most likely either on it's way out or causing this fault before it was serviced. I would advise you to put an ad on ratedpeople.com, you will get up to three tradesman buying the lead. Put as much info on the boiler as you can i.e make, model, age, when it was last serviced, location and description of the fault. It could be just the diaphragm or actuator that has gone but I wouldn't be able to diagnose online. Best of luck. Sam (eps)
