There could be a number of reasons for this, flueing is the first one that comes to mind, you need to have a heating engineer have a look at it.

Sounds like the oxygen depletion device is turning it off don't use the fire and get a gas safe registered gas engineer to look at it it may just need a good service. All gas appliances need servicing every year hope this helps cheers Ray
