Combi boiler advice

Posted by Sandra Lawler, on
My worcester 28i combi (about 8-9 yrs old)has been temporamental recently- heating and hot water both cutting out then restarting. Got a engineer out yesterday who said loose wire was the cause- when he left boiler was set to continuous heat/ max temp and working fine. Later I turned temp down on thermostat and changed to timer mode... boiler and water both cut out. He has been back out today- thought it was the timer that was faulty... broke it when he took it out... and broke the thermostat dial (said it was brittle)... now says I need a new electric panel as "some of the connectors are not lifting" but cant guarantee this is all that is wrong... now suggesting a replacement boiler (all the pipe work/ flue etc is in place). What would I be looking at for new electrical panel(and new timer switch/ thermostat since they are now cracked and broken)... or a replacement combi boiler (old house with 10 radiators)?? Does his 'diagnosis' sound right... not entirely convinced as in the space of 24hrs went from a simple loose wire to new boiler required. Any suggestions/ advice would be welcome??
