Boiler Leaking

Posted by Sunil Shah, on
Hello - I have a valiant combi boiler (installed 2008). Had no issues with it until I got it serviced last summer. At this service the plumber insisted that I have some screws drilled into the pipe going out of the boiler. Anyway - I agreed. Since then over the winter there has been water dripping from the boiler. I called the same plumber in, and they replaced some of the exit pipes and joints. This worked for a couple of days then this started again. I recalled the same plumber but unfortunately the water didn't drip when he was there (still had to pay him the callout). It started dripping 30min after he left. He came back and said that the condensation trap is faulty and needs to be replaced (I took a video aswell). To my questions 1) Is this a common issue? 2) I can see that the replacement part is relatively inexpensive (<£35). but is the replacement a big job and if I can't redemonstrate the issue would another plumber fix it (gas safe ofcourse)?

Screws in pipes? Condensate traps are usually pretty easy to get out. Need cleaned out yearly on a service. Get a gas safe fitter out to look and change whatever is needed. Only ever had to change one condensate trap so, no not a common fault.
