Removing an old gas pipe

Posted by Robert Jessop, on
I have an old gas pipe entering my property that is no longer in use. I know where the modern gas connections are, and at least one end of this pipe seems to be sealed. I've been advised that old pipes like these can contain pockets of gas and should be left in place in case the gas escapes. Is it possible to safely remove these old pipes, and what kind of tradesperson would I hire to take a look?
