Loft ladder

Posted by Jag Khokhar, on
I need a loft ladder and hatch replaced, nothing too fancy but mid ranged and aluminium. How much will this set me back?

As with most jobs, there are variables - if the ladder will fit into the existing hatch size then it's just a case of fitting the ladder to a suitable fixing point on the loft floor and re hanging the hatch door usually so it hinges down and pulls the ladder with it. This may mean making a new hatch door and replacing the trims around the hatch. If the hatch needs to be enlarged, this will mean cutting and trimming a ceiling joist and cutting away a section of ceiling to accommodate, then continue with steps as outlined above. This is the most common scenario and is the best part of a days work which, depending on the Tradesman will be between £80 - £150 for labour and probably £150 for ladder, timber and fittings.

Hi Jag I would recommend a Fakro loft hatch with built in wooden ladder far superior to aluminium ladders and you have the benefit of an insulated hatch. Would cost between £250-£300. Ed
