Loft conversion

Posted by Gareth Lambert, on
Hi im wanting to convert my loft.its a 2 bed terrace. 4.5 mtr wide. To a useable space. I plan on doing most of it my self with people i know. Except new joist next to existing. And new stairs. Three velux windows. One above the stairs to give extra head clearance. I dont think ill need to use rsjs. But theres no felt under roof tiles . Is there any way to insulate the roof without removing roof. Do i have to inform building regs to have a new floor and stairs in.

Hi Gareth If you put a socket and light in a loft space it becomes a liveable space and you will need building regs. The lack off roof felt will be a problem. Your roof will have to have breathable membrane. Under the tiles. There is a process where you can spray a foam under the tiles from inside but I'm unsure if it complies with building regs. I would consult with your building control. Regards Lee Myatt
