Pipe leak

Posted by Samantha Whyte, on
Hi there, A couple of days ago our shower pipe was leaking which was also causing the toilet pipe to leak so we got some Chema unblocker following advice from the landlord. We also got a shower plunger to further ensure removal of blockage. First we put the unlocker down and allowed this to work over 24 hours. Then used the plunger and poured boiling hot water down the shower. It appeared to be unblocked so my partner had a quick shower before bed last night. Immediately after his shower I noticed a huge leak coming from the kitchen ceiling which is underneath the bathroom. After cleaning it up we went to investigate the shower and noticed that the shower trap had come away from the shower cover. We assume it’s leaking due to this. After contacting our landlord he immediately said it was our fault for plunging it as shower traps are weak. But all information we came across online tells us that it’s common practice to plunge shower drains. If the damage is our fault then we have to pay as it falls onto maintenance. This is fine but I just wanted to seek expert opinion on the matter as I’ve never heard of not being able to plunge shower drains. Please let me know what you think. Thanks
