Waste water drainage - garage utility room?

We are considering converting part of our garage (connected to the house) to a utility room. Some plumbing was put in place whilst having some repairs done to the garage, however I'm unclear where the waste pipe would need to drain? Presumably it has to drain into a drain/sewer? The garage is on the opposite side of the house from the kitchen and. What would we have to do please?
