Tom, You need to lay a solid floor before tiling. Usually you would remove existing floor boards and lay either 18mm or 22mm Ply Board Floor. Other option is too fix Floor Boards down solid to beams and then lay a 12mm ply Board over the top. Now you have a solid base and can be tiled.
