Tiling bathroom wall.

Can a mirror be incorporated into a tiled wall or does it have to be placed on top of the tiles?

Hi Helen, This is a matter of either or, whatever your preference. If you choose to incorporate it and want a nice finish, put a couple of good sized dollops of silicone sealant every 40 cm or so on the wall where the mirror is going. Next, line the bottom edge of the mirror up with the tiles and gently push the mirror back until it is level and at a similar depth to the tiles. As soon as it is level, leave it alone for a day or two, then seal all around the edges with sealant. Job's a good 'un! Hope this helps :-) Best wishes Mostafa Bedford Building Maintenance

Yes it can my suggestion is once you have chosen your tiles speak to your tiler and get a mirror cut so it fits with the tile bond perfectly ( matches up with the joints ) get the mirror edges polished smooth & don't worry it will be no more expensive than buying a mirror from a general store

Hi Helen Yes it can be placed on a wall and tiled around. The way I do it on my jobs is to first mark out roughly where I want it, then leave out a area of tiles. I then measure the size of the opening and allow 3 mm all the way round, then get the mirror made. ( It is important to make sure the mirror is at leased 6mm thick and the edges are polished, or it will distort and look like the mirrors you get in a fair ground ) When you get the mirror made, its important also to tell the glass shop what you intend to do with the mirror, so they can put the right backing on it and supply you with the right mastic to fix it. when fixing it, depending on size, there should be two people and you must have 3mm plastic spaces or wedges. leave to dry and then grout in with the rest of the tiles, I hope this helps Good luck Chris C D Mead Builders

Hello there Yes a mirror can be incorporated into the tiles. However it wouldn't be fitted with tile adhesive. There is a special contact adhesive available for mirrors and would be perfect . I have done this job a few times now and every time has looked great and been perfectly secure John - The Man Handymam
