The only person to respond to my job request has not yet been rated! How will I know if they are any good?

Hi Helen, They may just be new to the site, ask for some references maybe? Explain that you would like to contact the people direct, so you can do a bit of sniffing about, rather than just being presented with letters...? I certainly wouldn't reject them just because of this, we were all unrated once! Hope this helps :-) Mostafa Tavengar Bedford Building Maintenance

Hello Helen, You don't. We all have to start somewhere. You was introduced to him from this site so if you have a problem report it. Regards Michael

There may be a good reason why he hasn't been rated: maybe he has just started with RP. Ask him for references, and if possible go and see some of his work if he can arrange it. If he can't provide references, walk away. regards, pete.

Hi Helen I would be aware of hiring someone who has no feedback and portfolio but you can always ask him for recommendations from other customers. If he is a good tiler he should has at least pictures of his work as well as portfolio of customers record. I would highly recommend to ask for a phone number to previous customers who would be able to proof his workmanship. I hope this can help Best regards Rafal

Hi Helen, As Steve suggests, we would ask for references and proof of qualifications. It is likely that this tradesman is even more incentivised to do a good job to win that first rating and help him/her secure future work. Best Wishes, Natalie The Ask an Expert Team
