Floor tiles laid on floorboards cracking

Posted by Paul McCay, on
Where my dining room meets my kitchen there are about 8 tiles laid onto floorboard instead of concrete. The tiles move with the floor causing the grout to break up and finally one of the tiles has cracked. I have some replacement tiles that were here when we moved in but how can they be laid without the same problem recurring? The tiles currently meet a solid wood floor in the dining room which I don't want to touch.

Take up the tiles laid on the floor boards. Put down plastic ply which is only 2mm thick so it won't raise the tiles to much. (Available at CDT or Nicobond). It just sticks to the foot boards after applying a primer to kill the dust. Then use a flexible adhesive and grout when laying the new tiles.
