Newly tiled bathroom shoddy job - builder suggesting sealant to solve?

Posted by Jayne Vincent, on
I had newly plaster boarded and skimmed walls tiled and the finish is poor, badly cut tiles, lack of continuity etc and really worrying where tiles have been cut to fit the sill every one has damage to the tiles and a jagged edge with top of tile cut into. The builder states re doing will open up a world of grief and further snagging and is suggesting sealant will hide the ugliness and solve the problem?!?! Doesn't sound good to me. Can you please advise on options to repair?

Hi Jayne, I'm sorry to hear you've had issues with your Tiling project. The builder is right that removing tiles from the plaster board surface could cause further problems as removing these tiles would almost certainly damage not only the tiles, but the wall itself making for further costs and repairs to wall. Silicone sealant can provide an excellent finish if done correctly and it comes in any colour you can imagine to give a matching finish. It can also be removed fairly easily so if you don't like the finish it doesn't have to stay. Failing that the only way to get other options on repair is to get out some Tilers to get a look and quote you on the options they present. Hope that's of some help to you.
