UPVC door issue

Posted by Jill Hirst, on
I'm wanting to fit new flooring in the kitchen. Problem is the UPVC door will not give enough clearance at the bottom to allow for the extra 10mm i would need. With hinge adjustment upwards i may gain about 3 mm, but the door is positioned right up to the lintel so gaining further height would create a much bigger job. Is it feasible or even possible to trim off about 3mm from both top and bottom of the door 'lip' to gain the clearance i need? Thank you

Hi Jill, The answer to your question is a simple no. You have a couple of options available, you could lay the flooring as close as possible up to the door leaving a small section that could be filled in with a small timber moulding that would tie the flooring in up to the bottom of the door frame. This would be the normal way the job would be finished. You can purchase mouldings from any timber yard or even B&Q there is a massive selection of different sizes and shapes and I'm sure that you would be able to find the correct size needed. The second option you have is expensive and would mean removing the existing door and frame and having a new complete unit made leaving the gap that you require so that the new flooring could be fitted under the door frame. I hope I have been able to help you with this problem. Good Luck. Regards, Darren, Red Security.
