Hi Lindsay, i have done many of these to very good effect in Windsor where we are on a flight path. if you are intending to keep your sash windows be it timber or other type. Go for a quality secondary glazing system like ours and opt for sound proof glass designed for noise reduction avoid the standard 6.3 laminated as this only has a thin film and gives limited result. If you go for the special stadip glass it has the thicker film and is designed for sound reduction. keep a reasonable gap to kill the noise - maximum six inches glass to glass if it allows it. If not, the best it will allow. this will help you to reduce the noise.
