Cat flap into double glazing

Posted by Jan Nichol, on
I have a double glazed glass side panel to my front door and would like a cat flap fitted. Is this an easy job, and how long would it take? Many thanks

Hi Jan, it's quite straight forward to fit a cat flap to a sealed unit. Allow 1 x week for works though most of the time is spent waiting for the glass to be prepared. If the glass needs cutting to a specific profile be prepared for a significant cost as these glass cuts can be £70+for each side. If The cat flap only requires a diameter hole cutting it's a lot cheaper. You will need the hole cutting big enough to accept the fixings as well. If you cut a large hole in glass with smaller holes for the fixing's nearby, even though the glass will be eventually toughened it will actually be weaker than expected. Hope that helps Nick

Hi Jan I would strongly recommend to post a job on main website because some of a job needs to be seen before any advice is given. Our service is free of charge with no obligation quote and our tradesmans are happy to help with every aspects of jobs. I would strongly recomend to post a job on Rated People home page then 3 companies will get in touch then you would be able to choose the right person as you would receive an e mail with a link to tradesman account where you would see a pictures and you will read revious from previous customers. I hope this will help Best regards Rafal

hi Jan, if you already have the hole cut it is quite simple; just fit the cat flap as per instruction on the box. if however there is no hole in the glass sealed unit you will require a new sealeaned unit, because glass used in doors have to be toughened and you cant cut a diameter in an already made toughened sealed unit. if so you will need a WINDOW AND DOOR installer who has past knowledge of fitting a cat flap. we have.
