Wood or Upvc sash windows?

Posted by Laura Myers, on
We've just bought a Victorian house where the sash windows have been replaced by aluminium. We'd like to replace these with sash windows to bring the property back in character however we live on a flight path so we are concerned about putting wood sash windows in due to noise levels. Some upvc sash windows look like good replicas - would this be a better choice for noise reduction? Could these be triple glazed? Is there a standard 'noise reduction' measure for windows that I should ask fitters about? Thank you for your help.

Hi Laura a timber sash window which has double glazing and has weather seals fitted should be equivalent to a UPVC window regards of noise insulation. It's probably worth doing a bit of research and contacting UPVC and timber sash manufacturers to compare products and price. You can't beat the look of a timber sash window! Ed
