Good morning Malcolm, if you upload some pictures of the building, including close up shots of the joints, I will try and advise.
Mortar joints all filled with ... Slate...?

Hi, I have a 1905 house and have a little bit of brickwork cracking so I thought I would put some crack stitch bars in. I am trying to grind out the joints but just below the surface it is dark grey and rock hard. It looks as if it could be slate, it seems to be right up the face of the house so not a dpc. Is this right? Anyone come across this before?!
