Artificial stone wall cracked top to bottom

Posted by James Quinn, on
Double thickness wall breeze block/artificial stone approx 3.5 m long, 1.5 m high built approx 20 years ago. Cracked in middle from top top bottom after approx 5 years, but nothing major. Last year crack has widened. What type of tradesman to I need to repair it - Stonemason, bricklayer or general builder. Advice would be helpful

A general builder or bricklayer would be able to cope with this job and also advise if it is load-bearing. A stonemason I feel would be over the top for this kind of work.

Hi James, Without knowing if the wall is external or internal and if supporting or not it is hard to give accurate advise. I would however say the starting point is if it is of any structural supporting value would be an engineer, if it is non load bearing or an external garden wall then a general builder would give the best advise and assess who would be best suited to fix the problem.
