Good evening Sharon, my advice would be to practice on a small inconspicuous area at the back of the property prior to attempting any work on the front elevation. Be sure to rake out the existing mortar to at least 18mm and use the correct sized trowel to apply the mortar otherwise you will end up with staining on your bricks. If funds allow, aproach a professional, if not, have a go and take your time.
